Helen D. Burgess
After obtaining an MScin protein chemistry from the University of British Columbia and an MAC in conservation science from Queen's University, Helen D. Burgess was hired in 1978 by the Conservation Processes Research Division of the Canadian Conservation Institute. Her current title is Senior Conservation Scientist, and she is responsible for the coordination of research being done in the area of paper conservation. Major past and present projects include archival tapes, chemical stablization of paper with borohydrides, use of enzymes in conservation, mass deacidification, and the development of recommendations for alkaline washing. An important future project involves investigation of the characteristics of permanent paper.

Archivaria, the journal of the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA), is devoted to the scholarly investigation of archives in Canada and internationally. Articles and other submissions are welcomed which explore the history, nature, and theory of archives and the use of archives. The journal aims to be a bridge of communication among archivists, and between archivists and users of archives.
