Author Biography

J. Peter Sigmond
J. Peter Sigmond studied History at Leiden University (Netherlands), where he got his doctorate for a study of "The Development of Dutch Ports Between 1500-1800." He has been a publisher and was from 1980 to 1989 Director of the National Dutch Archives School in The Hague and member of the 1CA Committee on professional training. In 1986 he was a fellow in the research programme for the study of modem archives at the Bentley Historical Library in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has published books and articles on archives (automation and training), paleography and maritime history. At present he is director of the National Army Museum in Delft.
