Author Biography

John W. Roberts
John W. Roberts has served as Chief of the Office of Archives of the US Federal Bureau of Prisons since 1987. From 1978 to 1982 and 1985 to 1987 he was staff archivist at the US National Archives, and from 1982 to 1985 he was Director of Development Services at Trinity College in Washington, DC. He holds a PhD in history from the University of Maryland, has published numerous articles on prison history and the history of American foreign relations, and is a contributor to the forthcoming Encyclopedia of American Prisons. His book, Escaping Prison Myths: Selected Topics in the History of Federal Corrections is scheduled for publication in May 1994 by American University Press.
