Author Biographies

Elaine G. Toms
Elaine G . Toms is currently Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies, Dalhousie University, a position she has held since 1989. Previously, she was Information Services Librarian at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (1984-1989), and was seconded to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Ottawa to work as WAVES Database Manager (1989). She holds a BA (1975) in geography and a BEd (1975), both from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and an MLS (1983) from Dalhousie University. She teaches courses in the Organization of Information, Systems Analysis, Database Management Systems and Library Automation. In addition to the HyperRAD project, she is currently researching minimum-level standards for bibliographic records.
Wendy Duff
Wendy Duff is currently a coordinator at the Nova Scotia Provincial Library. Previously she worked on staff at the Public Archives of Nova Scotia, where she was involved in a number of standardization projects. She is an ACA member of the Bureau of Canadian Archivists' Planning Committee on Descriptive Standards, and a member of the SubjectIndexing Working Group. She is also a member of the International Council on Archives Ad Hoc Commission on Descriptive Standards and a member of the 1992 ACA Programme Committee.
