Author Biography

Jim Burant

Jim Burant is the Chief of the Art, Photography and Philatelic Section of the Visual and Sound Archives Division of the National Archives of Canada, a position he has held since April 1998. He holds an Honours BA in history and art history (1974), and an MA in Canadian studies (1979) from Carleton University. Jim has published widely on archives and archival issues, aspects of Canadian art history, and photography in such journals as Archivaria, The Archivist, Provenance, Journal of Canadian Art History, Imprint, and Muse. As well, he has organized art exhibitions for the National Archives of Canada and the National Gallery of Canada. A former president of the Ontario Association of Archivists, Jim chaired the Program Committee for the 1994 Association of Canadian Archivists conference and served as chair of the Algonquin College Archives Technician Program Advisory Board. At present, he acts as an editorial advisor to the Journal of Canadian Art History. He also plays oldtimers hockey, and is a Scout Leader.
