Joan M. Schwartz
Joan M. Schwartz is Associate Professor/Queen’s National Scholar in the Department of Art at Queen’s University where she teaches courses in the history of photography and society. An historical geographer, she is also cross-appointed to the Department of Geography at Queen’s and is an Adjunct Research Professor in both history and geography at Carleton University. From 1977 to 2003, she was an archivist, section chief, and senior specialist in the Photography Acquisition and Research section of the then National Archives of Canada. She is co-author, with Terry Cook, of Archives, Records, and Power, two double theme issues of Archival Science (2002), and coeditor with James R. Ryan of Picturing Place: Photography and the Geographical Imagination (2003).
