The Archivaria Editorial Board is seeking members.

Archivaria invites expressions of interest from members of the broad archival community for a variety of positions on the Editorial Board. Your expression of interest should include: 1) a brief statement outlining your interest, 2) an indication of which position you are applying for and 3) any experience that you feel is pertinent. Expressions of interest can be submitted directly to the General Editor, general.editor@archivists.ca

All members of the Editorial Board must be members in good standing of the Association of Canadian Archivists, however if you are facing any barriers or challenges with regard to membership, please reach out to either the ACA Vice-President or Executive Director.

The ACA believes that a professional and intellectual community is enriched and enhanced by diversity along a number of dimensions, including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity and national origins, gender and gender identity, sexuality, class and religion. We are especially committed to increasing committee participation by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) professionals. We encourage applications from ACA members at any stage of their careers and from all backgrounds.

Archivaria Editorial Board positions:

1. Editorial Board Member (general)

Terms of Reference

The function of the Archivaria Editorial Board is to ensure the highest possible quality, interest and relevance of Archivaria. Main tasks include:

  • to advise the General Editor of the scope, content and editorial standards of the journal;
  • to represent the journal across Canada and internationally, and encourage submissions for publication;
  • at the request of the General Editor, evaluate manuscripts submitted for publication and make recommendations (peer review), and recommend to the General Editor names of qualified reviewers for manuscripts;
  • to determine the winner of the annual W. Kaye Lamb Prize;
  • and to advise the General Editor on other issues related to the management of the journal, such as policies and procedures.

Eligibility Requirements

  • All members of the Editorial Board must be members in good standing of the Association of Canadian Archivists . If you are facing any barriers or challenges with regard to membership, please reach out to either the ACA Vice-President or Executive Director.
  • Individual members should possess an interest in archival scholarship.
  • Having experience in scholarly editing is not necessary, but it is an asset.

Duration of term

Members of the Board are selected by the General Editor, in consultation with the Editorial Board, for a three (3) year term starting in June, with the possibility of re-appointment for one (1) additional three-year term.

Meetings

The Editorial Board holds one face-to-face meeting each year at the Annual Conference of the ACA, as well as two online meetings taking place usually in the Fall and in the Spring of each year. Participation in the Board meetings is encouraged, but not mandatory.

2. French-language Editor (Editorial Team)

Archivaria is looking for a French-language Editor to join its Editorial Team.

Terms of Reference

The French-language Editor provides advice and assistance with the French language to the General Editor, the Managing Editor, and all other members of the editorial and production staff. The appointed French-language Editor will assist with the production of two (2) issues annually (Spring and Fall) in print and electronic versions. Main tasks include:

  • To solicit and encourage the submission of manuscripts in French;
  • To evaluate, at the discretion of the General Editor, manuscript submissions written in French and make recommendations thereon to the General Editor, Books Review Editor or Exhibitions Editor;
  • To undertake the management of the peer review process for manuscripts written in French;
  • To oversees the copy editing of manuscripts written in French that have been accepted and scheduled for publication;
  • To copy edit book, exhibition, and film reviews that have been submitted in French;
  • To assist the Managing Editor by reviewing and correcting page proofs;
  • To liaises with the editor of Archives, to ensure publication of table of contents in each respective journal;
  • To provides translations of official Archivaria documents, including abstracts of articles and information for prospective authors;
  • To implements editorial standards for French language.
  • To cooperate with the French-language Book, Exhibition, and Film Review Editor as required; and
  • As a member of the Editorial Board, to peer review submissions at the request of the General Editor.

Eligibility Requirements

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, the requirements of the French-language Editor position are:

  • Commitment to the ongoing quality and reputation of the journal and the Association;
  • Scholarly editing experience, as demonstrated by having served previously in an editorial capacity with Archivaria or another publication;
  • A time commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per month;
  • Foster a positive working relationship with other Editorial Board members, and staff; and
  • Be aware and abstain from any conflict of interest.

The French-language Editor is selected by the General Editor, in consultation with the Editorial Board, for a three (3) year term starting in June, with the possibility of re-appointment for one (1) additional three-year term.

3. English-language Exhibition and Film Review Editor (Editorial Team)

Archivaria is looking for an Exhibition and Film Review Editor to join its Editorial Team.

Terms of Reference

In close and regular consultation with the General Editor, the Exhibition and Film Review Editor is responsible for all matters pertaining to exhibition and film reviews and review articles. The appointed individual will gather exhibition and film reviews and review articles, as available, for inclusion in two (2) issues annually (Spring and Fall). Main tasks include:

  • To determine which exhibitions and films shall be reviewed, by whom, and at what level of detail;
  • To engage prospective reviewers and ensure that the deadline for submitting completed assignments is met;
  • To edit manuscripts of exhibition reviews and exhibition review articles that have been received and scheduled for publication, and refer them to the General Editor for final approval;
  • To refer French-language exhibitions and films to the French-language Editor for reviews and otherwise cooperate with the French Language Editor as required; and
  • as a member of the Editorial Board, to peer review submissions at the request of the General Editor.

Eligibility Requirements
